My latest book, Unity Pilgrim: The Life of Fr Gerry Reynolds CSsR, was featured in Fergus O’Ferrall’s ‘Rite and Reason’ column in today’s Irish Times.
It also will be the focus of a Q&A at Féile an Phobail on Monday 5 August at 1 pm in St Mary’s University College.
O’Ferrall’s article, ‘Toxic theology underpins segregation and sectarianism’, notes that Unity Pilgrim is one of two recent publications that:
‘have highlighted the significance of sectarianism and the responsibility that falls on Irish churches in addressing this embedded reality of life in Northern Ireland’.
The other publication is a report by Prof Duncan Morrow of Ulster University, ‘Sectarianism in Northern Ireland: A Review’.
Quoting from my remarks at the launch of Unity Pilgrim, O’Ferrall observes that Reynolds was one of those rare and prophetic Irish Christians who ‘faced up’ to the reality of sectarianism and dedicated his life to transforming and transcending it.
The event at the Féile will be an opportunity for me to share more about the book in a Question and Answer format. The book has just gone into its second printing, and copies will be available for purchase.
