I’ll be taking part in a Premier Christian Media ‘Digital Church’ webinar on ‘A Church without Walls’ this Wednesday, 23 September, 3.30-5.00 pm Irish/British time. Here’s the description of the webinar:
Decades ago, the Church in Scotland proposed a new way of doing Church – a Church without walls – no longer focussed so much on physical expressions of church but on hybrid models engaging with people where they are. We look at some examples of the Church without Walls across different part of the UK. Is there a new model of Church is already in place?
The webinar is hosted by Revd Dr Pete Phillips, director of the Research Centre for Digital Theology at Durham University. Speakers include:
- Revd Albert Bogle, Sanctuary First, Falkirk Presbytery
- Dr Gladys Ganiel, Queen’s University Belfast
- Revd Andy Fishburne, SThie, Isle of Mann
- Revd Laura Digan, Minister, Church of Scotland
The webinar costs £4.99 and you can book here. You also can subscribe to the whole series and other Digital Church offers.
The tagline of this blog is ‘building a church without walls’ so the title of this webinar seems especially apt. In my contribution, I will draw on my research on Emerging Christianity and other forms of ‘de-institutionalised’ or ‘extra-institutional’ religion over the years, as well as more recent research on how churches have moved services online during the Covid-19 pandemic.
