Thank you, Gladys. As an American I know “parading” from a different vantage point, but many of the dynamics remain the same. There exist activist protests, gathering to address political situations and using symbolic action to do so. But that is different than identity parades used to intimidate. We have a legacy of the latter around issues of race – especially in the part of those who perceive themselves as disenfranchised or having lost some former preeminent status. It almost always accomplishes nothing transformative but rather reinforces old narratives and prejudices.
